CAROL HAKE
Carol Hake has been a member of Gallery 9 since 1973. A graduate of the University of Iowa, her art training began in high school with visits to the Museum of Modern Art. Her teacher took the class there several times a year. It was an easy and exciting ride on a double decker bus down St. Nicholas and 5th Avenues. She went often. Degas, Matisse and Hopper became her favorites.
The landscape became her passion when she moved to California, this great land of oaks and golden hills. When her children left for college she appropriated the living room with its Bay view and north light. It became a wonderful place to paint still life and though she still loves to go out in the hills, her April 2005 exhibit is full of the light and color she sees there. Along with an eclectic mix of fish, fruit and flowers are recently acquired fabrics from a trip to Japan. Also on view will be a sketch book from that trip.
Carol also has a studio in a former cow shed in Bolinas where she paints the lagoon and hills as well as more still life.
