GALLERY 9, the oldest art gallery in Los Altos, is a cooperative gallery of local artists who work in various media, including painting, printmaking, photography, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and weaving.
Established in 1970 in Menlo Park, Gallery 9 moved to Los Altos in 1973. Some of the earliest members are still with the Gallery. Originally a group of nine artists - hence the name - the membership now stands at just under thirty.
Artists are juried into membership, ensuring that the quality of the work exhibited is high.
Each month a new show is hung in the front part of the Gallery, featuring the work of one or two of the members. Receptions for the artist are held in conjunction with each new exhibit. Work of other members is exhibited in the other half of the Gallery, and changes monthly as well.
Representational, figurative, and abstract art work are available for sale. The Gallery also has a rental program available for local businesses.
Gallery 9 is supported and maintained by member artists. There is no paid director and no commission collected for works sold.
Prospective Members:
Artists who would like to be considered for membership should visit the gallery for further information. Meetings are usually held monthly for hanging new shows and jurying.
